Description

Just in time for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 2nd, make your own Nicho Shrine Shadow Box in this hands-on workshop!

A nicho box, or simply ‘nicho’, is a three-dimensional display box, traditionally used as a portable shrine to an important figure or loved one. Commonly used during Dia de los Muertos celebrations, nicho boxes were used to honour a combination of both people and objects in popular culture. Constructed from humble materials: wood, tin, glass, and even cigar boxes, nichos are known for their colourful and varied decorations, which can range from simple paint or paper, through to sequins, glitter, rope, paper mache and found objects.

In this three hour workshop Melbourne designer, Anna Kolusniewski, will guide you through the process of painting the base, cutting and colouring tin, decorating using a variety of traditional and pop culture mixed media and creating a collage base picture. You will have complete freedom to create your own one off piece!
